Downtown Corner Brook
Be sure to visit Corner Brook’s downtown area! Downtown Corner Brook has over 4 kms (2.5 miles) of beautiful red interlocking brick sidewalks, heritage lights, and green spaces to make your experience a memorable one! While visiting our downtown shops and galleries, look for marble inscriptions that provide a history of the unique heritage buildings.
West Street and Broadway are the two main streets which make up the downtown area. West Street was designed by landscape architect Thomas Adams in the Garden City Movement style. West Street houses everything from professional services such as doctors, lawyers, and dentists to boutiques, pubs, restaurants, and more. Enjoy visiting the shops located in period buildings designed by renowned architect Andrew Cobb.
Broadway was the first shopping district in Corner Brook. Many of the businesses were built in the 1930’s and offer the unique experience of shopping in family-owned businesses as in years gone by. Enjoy the ambience of the local flavour as you enjoy the pubs, restaurants, boutiques, and retail outlets Broadway has to offer.
Captain James Cook National Historic Site
In 1767, the famous British explorer and cartographer Captain James Cook surveyed the Bay of Islands and was the first to map the area. The Captain James Cook Monument is a National Historic Site displaying copies of the charts mapped by Captain Cook. This site is easily accessible by car and offers a vantage point for a breathtaking view of the Bay of Islands.
Corner Brook Museum and Archives
Journey through time with a visit to the Corner Brook Museum. Built in 1926, this registered heritage building once housed a post office, customs office, telegraph office, and courtroom. Exhibits on display at the museum depict the social, cultural, and natural history of Corner Brook and the Humber Valley/Bay of Islands region. Exhibits include History of Corner Brook, Pulp and Paper, Aboriginal, Military, Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, and more. 709-634-2518
Exit 8 – Trans Canada Highway, Steady Brook
Sixty scenes from Newfoundland and Labrador’s history are carved into this 17m (55 feet), 360 year old cedar tree located at the entrance to Marble Mountain.

Exit 7 – Trans Canada Highway, Riverside Drive
According to local legend, the Spanish buried a treasure on Shellbird Island in the Humber River. If you look closely, you will see the face of an old man in a rock formation overlooking the island. “The Old Man in the Mountain” is said to be a marker for the treasure. This is best viewed from the rest area at the exit. An information board will help you find the “Old Man”.
Newfoundland Hockey Hall of Fame

The Newfoundland and Labrador Hockey Hall of Fame pays tribute to individuals who contributed to the rich history of the game in our province. See exhibits honouring players from Newfoundland and Labrador who have made it to the National Hockey League and the now defunct World Hockey Association. Railway Society of Newfoundland Historic Train Site
Riverside Drive at Station Road
The Historic Train Site features rolling stock, trackage, freight and shed. Artifacts also include telegraph instruments, train order sophomore signal board, train orders, phones and a collection of historic photos. Steam engine locomotive No. 543, working diesel locomotive No. 931, and other train cars can be visited.

Parks and TrailsPart of Corner Brook’s charm is its closeness to nature within our city. Be sure to enjoy the Corner Brook Stream Trail – one of our city’s natural treasures! ParksMargaret Bowater Park O’Connell Drive (between University Drive & West Valley Road) Margaret Bowater Park offers a supervised natural swimming area with change area and canteen services during July and August. The park is the host venue for special events including the Sounds of Summer Concert Series, Canada Day Celebration, Corner Brook Day Celebration, and the Corner Brook Winter Carnival. The newly renovated playground area is a family delight – ideal for a family picnic. The site is also well lit for evening activities. To book the park for a special event call (709) 637-1577. Kinsmen Prince Edward Campground and RV Park Route 440, Corner Brook Kinsmen Prince Edward Campground and RV Park is located within the boundaries of the City of Corner Brook on Route 440. This facility is a modern campground and recreational vehicle (RV) park, with a number of services and facilities to accommodate campers using tents or RVs. The facility features a picnic and playground area and has many services and facilities available. The trail is groomed and has rest areas throughout the three diverse sections of the trail. The downtown trail features the Glynmill Inn Pond where a family of swans is the star attraction. Three Bear Mountain offers walkers a panoramic view of the City of Corner Brook. A short walk will bring you to information panels highlighting various scenes you are able to view from this vantage point. This trail can be accessed from the parking lot of O’Connell Centre located at 1 Hospital Hill.The distance is 1km and the degree of difficulty is Easy but the beginning of the trail is sloped. Online maps and trail descriptions are available at www.cbstream.com International Appalachian Trail Route 440, Corner Brook The Newfoundland Labrador portion of the Appalachian Trail is 1200 km long (745 miles) and stretches from Port Aux Basques to L’Anse aux Meadows. The Humber Valley Trail starts just outside of Corner Brook at Route 440. To access the trail you need to cross over the Ballam Bridge just off Riverside Drive. The hike takes about four hours and brings you to the top of the “Old Man in the Mountain”. 709-639-3313 or info@iatnl.ca In The Area:Bottle Cove Route 450, Lark Harbour Bottle Cove is located approximately 50 km (31 miles) from Corner Brook on the South Shore highway. When travelling to Bottle Cove you will visit a number of small fishing communities and take in breathtaking views. While in Bottle Cove you can wander along a sandy beach and stroll along beautiful walking trails Blow Me Down Provincial Park and Trail Route 450, Lark Harbour Approximately 47 km (29 miles) from Corner Brook the Blow Me Down Provincial Park offers 28 non-serviced sites, dumping station, washrooms/showers, and laundry facilities. If you’re an outdoor enthusiast then you will love the Blow Me Down Park and Trail. Enjoy a hike in the park which will take you from the beach to a lookout platform offering panoramic views of the rugged coastline of York Harbour, Lark Harbour and the Bay of Islands. The park is also loved by paddlers with endless miles of open ocean to explore the beauty of the region by water.

City of Corner Brook Recreation Master Plan The purpose of the Recreation Master Plan is to provide the City of Corner Brook with a comprehensive set of recommendations and a decision making framework, for the future provision of parks & recreation facilities and services in the community. Pike’s Avenue The Bay of Islands Yacht Club is nestled in Allen’s Cove in the Bay of Islands. The club offers over night docking, seasonal docking, winter storage, showers, laundry, fresh water, electricity, free parking, anchorage, moorings, and a crane for boat lifts. Steady Brook, Trans Canada Highway, Exit 8 This ski mountain is a vertical ride that drops more than 1700 feet. Match your skills to one of 36 runs, from novice to expert. There’s a high-speed quad lift to take you back up the hill. A warm lodge and accommodations await you when you come down. 709-637-7601 1 Canada Games Place The Pepsi Centre has two rinks available for public skating and is home to senior and minor hockey leagues, a speed skating club, and the Silver Blades Figure Skating Club. The Pepsi Centre also has an indoor public walking track and hosts a range of sporting activities.
